Latent print examination has advanced considerably over the last 10 to 20 years. The latent print community has become more technical in understanding friction ridge skin and its use for identification. It wasn’t too long ago that most examinations were conducted by police officers in make shift labs. Today, they are performed in forensic laboratories by staff with science backgrounds. And with that came more refined definitions like Ridgeology, Edgeoscopy, Poroscopy, ACE-V Methodology, and Levels 1, 2 and 3. This isn’t “Book’em Danno…we’ve got our guy” anymore.

Besides your traditional latent prints, there are various other types of impressions that can be compared to an individual for purposes of identification or exclusion. Click here for a sampling of these other types of impressions.

FoCoSS Forensics can perform scientific examinations in this area or we can review cases involving this type of examination and the reported opinions based on the results.
